Nature Walks

From the newly coined Shinrin-yoku or Japanese “Forest Bathing” to historic pilgrimages, saunters, or the evening constitutional, walking outdoors has been recognized as good medicine with payoffs in lowered stress, improved cardiovascular condition, improved mood and often clearer and more creative thinking. Famous Harvard heart doctor and professor Paul Dudley White said, “A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.” We will take a leisurely stroll around the high school and YMCA’s woods if the weather allows, stopping to encourage mindful walking and to take in smells and sights. We will be outside for most of the session, so jackets are recommended depending on the weather. Participants should come wearing comfortable walking shoes for the spring trails and wet ground. Long pants are recommended.

Join Alan Harris at 12PM or Shannah Milani at 1PM in the Bus Lobby to participate in a nature walk. If the weather prevents us from going outside, then we will participate in Mindfulness Meditation.
