WellnessSTRONG Week

Welcome To WellnessSTRONG 2018!

We’re excited for this week and hope you enjoy the curriculum and offerings! Each day is themed with aspects of WellnessSTRONG woven through the day. An overview is provided here and every morning you will receive an additional email including the detailed curriculum for the next day. The program will only require approximately 5-10 minutes per block. Please add your own personal style to the activities and remember that your enthusiasm will increase student participation.

Mindful Monday 3/19:

Block 1: Morning announcements with “Digital Detox” article read to all

Block 2: “Mindfulness Inventory” lesson (pink sheet) in your mailbox to do with class, 10 minutes

Block 3: Cafeteria: essential oil presentations, therapy dog visit in Berry’s corner, mindful

coloring, mindfulness music

Block 4: “Mind-body connection” mindfulness activity - teacher led, attached below

Tiki Tuesday 3/20:

Please support today’s theme by wearing something tropical, floral, or brightly colored.

Block 1: Mindfulness meditation “Choose your breathing anchor”, teacher led at 7:30am

Block 2: Kahoot game on sun facts: click - Kahoot

  • You will need to project the game and make sure all have a smart phone/laptop to play

Block 3: Cafeteria: therapy dog visit in Berry’s corner, Hawaiian leis and music

Block 4: Two brief YouTube videos on sun safety: How the Sun Sees You, Dear 16-year-old Me

Workout Wednesday 3/21:

Please support today’s theme by wearing something athletic (sweatpants, yoga pants, unitard)

Block 1: Mindfulness activity: “Hello Game”, see below, teacher led at 7:30am

Block 2: Open

Block 3: Cafeteria: 2 therapy dogs visiting in Berry’s corner, walking lunch option, music

Block 4: Restful quiet 12:30-12:45

  • Remind students to turn off devices, turn down lighting, relax in chair and/or heads down. Talk about the importance of quieting our bodies and minds to refresh. Discuss how it’s important to take breaks in order to refocus attention. Reference studies saying that a 15-20 minute nap daily increases productivity and creativity (done at Google, Zappos, Ben & Jerry’s Uber, etc.). Everyone should be welcomed to sit quietly or nap.

Thankful Thursday 3/22:

Block 1: Mindfulness activity “Thankful with every step”, see below, teacher led at 7:30am

Block 2: Discussion on gratitude for 10 minutes, “Grati-gram” thank you notes to/from teachers

Block 3: Cafeteria: therapy dog visit in Berry’s corner, music, “Grati-gram” notes and “smile cards”

Block 4: Optional open discussion of Wellness Week

Faculty Friday 3/23:

Please support today’s theme by wearing clothing appropriate for the workshop of your choosing.

Block 1: “Grati-Gram” deliveries and 5 minute feedback survey online, NO HOMEWORK WEEKEND!
