The Web Beyond Google: Internet Research Part 2
Objective: To move beyond Googling and expose educators to a variety of search tools and ways to obtain information on the World Wide Web.
Description: Google only finds 50% of the information available on the WWW. By learning what other search tools are available you will open yourself up to a wealth of information. Participants will be exposed to Directories and Metasearch Engines. Upon completion of this workshop educators more than likely use other search tools to conduct their academic research.
By expanding my Internet searches beyond Google, I am able to gain access to a wider variety of material that has benefited my practice in the classroom. Not only do I gain greater insight, I am able to share these search practices with my students which broadens their lens to the world around them.
Advice for Implementation: Don't limit yourself to just Google, Yahoo, and Bing! They are just Coke and Pepsi. Let's throw in some Dr. Pepper and Orange Crush!
