Technology Integration: Promoting Engagement and Collaboration with Schoology

Objective: In this introductory session, participants will join a Schoology course, view a video, explore resources, participate in an online discussion, and complete an assignment.

Description: Schoology is an online learning, classroom management, and social networking platform that improves learning through better communication, collaboration, and increased access to instructional resources. Explore how Schoology can be used to deliver blended and flipped instruction, promote student engagement, differentiate instruction, organize curricular resources, and share courses with colleagues. Experience how Schoology allows all students to engage more easily in discussion-based activities, which improves literacy skills and encourages regular reflection on their learning.

Schoology has streamlined my process for developing curriculum, planning lessons, and collaborating with colleagues. Schoology allows for more differentiation of instruction, because students can work at their own pace instead of waiting for others to finish an instructional component. Students who are absent for short or long periods of time can access the course resources, participate in the class and collaborate with their peers. Finally Schoology provides an avenue for flipping or blending instruction, which has allowed me to cover more standards and get further ahead in pacing.

Advice for Implementation: Although Schoology is fairly intuitive, many aspects of Schoology are better presented and explored in more formal settings such as faculty expositions and professional development workshops.
